Vibrant colours, bold big prints merged with neutral tones and tailoring has set a trend for Spring/Summer 2020. Graphics and prints inspired by home décor are being reflected on to garments. Luxury brands like Prada and Marc Jacobs took a cue from vintage wallpapers and converted them to prints for tailored suits. In the form of spring dresses, Christopher Kane opted for a more abstract wallpaper print while Etro and Alberta Ferretti preferred a more bohemian-print alternative. Retro prints are big on the ramp this year with bold colours and patterns.
Animal prints are also back in trend. Besides the famous leopard print, that we’ve been seeing in past years as well, this time zebra stripes and snake prints are also ready to take over your wardrobe. For instance, Burberry is taking a leap with deer spots on handbags. This animal kingdom prints trend is not remain limited to women, men are embracing it too.
Spring brings with it flowers and the fashion forward man could opt for a crisp floral shirt with a pair of relaxed denims. If you’re feeling uber bold, a full floral suit would be quite the head-turner at work. Women can choose between a floral printed boho dress to simple floral shirt with denims, for a casual outing. You could style your florals in many ways, but keep the accessorising minimal to keep the focus on the pretty prints.
The bold print is on every garment — shirts, dresses, shorts and even shoes. With a variety of options to pick from, one must understand the importance of styling it right.
The key is to understand which fashion pieces better complement the design and colour. This does not mean you cannot experiment with your individual style. Just be open to playing around, combining different prints and pairing them with different colours to see what works best.
Besides flower power and jungle fever, oversized polka dots are also in vogue. No need to restrict yourself to a retro 80’s themed party. Polkas will pop at a brunch or even a party. The best part about polka dots is that you could dress up or dress down by the way you style them. You could opt for a nice pop coloured handbag like a deep red or pair it your spotted ensemble with bright accessories.
Men can also wear polka shirts or trousers but if you feel that’s a bit too much for you, then you could opt for a polka dot scarf or tie to make a dull outfit more interesting.
Bold prints give you a chance to create your own fashion statement. There are no stringent rules while styling them. Rather it’s about creating your style statement. Just remember to make the print the centre-piece of your outfit. Don’t overdo the accessories and keep the rest of your outfit low-key by choosing neutral colours or minimal elements to make the print stand out.
