From the 1960s itself, denim has been our best friend. Denim always comes to the rescue when you think you have a fashion emergency. Men and women have always been fascinated will all the trends of denim like wide legs, baggy, bell bottoms, skinny etc. Lately, skinny denim had been the preference all over the world and wide leg, flared, or any jeans with a structure for that matter were deemed horrendous, well now it’s the opposite.

Everyone has their favourite Starbucks drink which they can have every day without getting bored and similarly everyone has found their perfect denim jeans which is always their go-to attire in denim. But whether your trusty jean selection is a slouchy high-rise or skinny dark wash, there’s a slew of denim trends for 2022 that might convince you to experiment outside your comfort zone. Spoiler: This year’s buzziest styles are all about nostalgia.
When I say that Denim fashion this year is the instant language, I don’t just mean the bottom wear. Top to bottom denim is the new style set. Baggy jeans for both men and women have set a bar this year. They come with colour-blocked style, distressed, patchwork, printed, asymmetrical waistline etc. All these jeans patterns have been all over our Instagram, and whilst we were contemplating at first whether we should try them out we seriously want to at this point. With baggy jeans there comes off-shoulder denim cutouts for women and bright coloured denim shirts for men giving a perfect casual and date night look. The denim on denim look this year is going places like India to the US. The unfiltered truth is that this year denims are going to be the trendsetter for all kinds of clothing. Bottoms, footwear, tops, shirts, denim is ruling the fashion industry this spring/summer.

The 1990s bootcut jean was one of the best trends of denim which was loved the most. After 2007, the fashion of those was worn out and was replaced by skinny denim jeans which till date consider our wardrobe staple. Black skinny jeans are was always been the classic in our attires but now again the bootcut fashion is back with a bang giving the 1990s feels with a pinch of nasty. This year’s runway was all about the bootcuts and gave the ravishing look we have been trying to get.

Hearing the word denim and mentioning its styles the image that pops in your head is the classic denim blue or the light sky blue coloured pair of jeans but are our fashionistas really gonna stick to that? No, the trends now have changed with the new wave of all denim looks. This summer/spring there aren’t really any limits in terms of shades of denim to avoid or to pursue. But we will say this, we’re seeing a lot lighter wash denim and that’s a fact. Something that’s really in right now is two-tone denim, think of the patchwork you saw earlier but just two main patches of denim, each a different variant of denim. Also, try and switch the colours themselves of your jeans up, who says denim is just blue? White and brown jeans are a thing too, even pink!
